One of the key benefits of accessing our accredited relationships and sex education (RSE) training course is that the training fee includes your first year’s membership in the Esteem network of RSE educators. Teachers who attend our 1-day teacher training course also have the option to join the network.
Members of the Esteem network are licenced to use our huge range of Esteem lesson plans and activities, and to access the members’ section of the acet UK website.
The core Esteem manual is always expanding and provides resources for running sessions with young people on self esteem; puberty; relationships and sex; media and technology; STIs; HIV; relationships skills; emotional wellbeing and coping strategies; and parenthood.
Members also get full access to new resources that we develop to meet the evolving needs of the young people we work with, including lesson plans, activity details - and even crochet patterns and 3D printing files!
Recently, we launched the Girls’ Project to the Esteem network - our new RSE 7-week programme which equips and empowers girls aged 11–15 with practical tools to unearth their self-worth, establish healthy boundaries and flourish into the woman they desire to be.
To support the launch, we ran a training day on the 1st November to provide members with key insights into the pressures some young girls face in the climate of modern culture, as well as resources and ideas to engage a diverse group of young girls in a small group setting.
The Girls' Project covers five topics (generally delivered in one-hourly sessions over 7 weeks):
- Standards of Beauty explores cultural and societal standards of beauty, and how they can influence our self-esteem.
- Media Messages explores the impact of social media, as well as the subliminal messages portrayed in wider media.
- See Me seeks to explore the topic of intimacy, the healthy and unhealthy behaviours and boundaries in a relationship, as well as the legal components for consent.
- Safe and Sound raises awareness of sexual exploitation, as well as how to identify signs of abuse within a relationship, including reporting methods.
- Under Pressure explores peer pressure and its impact on relationships and sex.
The day was hugely enjoyable and we received great feedback.
The resources in general have been amazing. Very engaging and current for our society.
I feel that I have been equipped with the language and emotional empathy to communicate very sensitive topics in an accurate and functional way.
Brilliant training – thank you very much Esther and Paul.
We have another training day for members planned for February on the topic of RSE with young people experiencing mental ill health. This training is the result of a 2-year pilot programme providing relationships and sex education within a tier 4 CAMHS secure adolescent inpatient unit.
You could gain access all these amazing resources and more, by attending our RSE training course and joining the Esteem network. Visit our training page to find out more and to see details of our upcoming courses.
"It's hugely beneficial being part of the Esteem Network. They show genuine interest in how relationships and sex education is delivered in different parts of the country, and value our input as well as provide us with consistent support and advice. Gareth’s monthly emails are something I look forward to and truly inform and improve our work. There are articles, blogs and crucial news and updates on everything and anything related to RSE. Following @esteem_acetUK on Twitter is also a great way of staying engaged and in the know. acet UK’s Esteem resources around relationships, self-esteem and sexting (particularly the #IsItOK? activity) are used by us frequently in classrooms and enable pupils to engage in and understand this sensitive and problematic topic of sending nudes.” Ben, Blue Sky Trust
