During the past academic year, we welcomed 54 new members to the Esteem network of relationships and sex educators, after they attended one of our 4 day Esteem RSE training courses. This means more and more young people are being reached with good quality RSE.
We ran a number of courses in the last year - in Surrey, Luton, Chester, Nottingham, and Northampton - equipping participants to deliver relationships and sex education to young people. The course helps educators:
- support young people in developing healthy self-esteem and relationships;
- become confident in talking openly and sensitively about sexual health issues;
- support young people in developing skills and resilience to deal with the influence and impact of modern technology on relationships and sex (including porn);
- communicate to young people the importance of making healthy life choices about sex;
- plan and deliver effective, fun and interactive sessions with young people;
- and apply best practice and recommended government policy guidelines;
The £250 training fee includes the first year's membership of the Esteem network, including a licence to use Esteem resources and access the members section of the acet UK website. Members also receive ongoing support from acet UK staff, regular updates about relationships and sex education issues, discounts on update training events and conferences, and early access to newly developed resources.
We are also pleased to announce a new development for future courses: the 4 day Esteem RSE training course can now be completed with accreditation. Working with the Open College Network, acet UK can provide trainees on the 4 day course with the opportunity to achieve an accredited level 4 award, 'Teaching relationships and sex education' for an additional fee of £50 per person. This award is designed for new RSE educators to help support their development and demonstrate their capabilities in the field of RSE. Completion of this level 4 credit award requires learners to complete two small assignments based upon the Esteem training and is subject to formal assessment.
