How AMAZING are our supporters?! Thank you SO much to everyone who joined us in the Big Give Christmas Challenge over the past week. Together we raised £23,003 which will support vulnerable girls and women like Jabulani, Corsi, and Naomi in building safe and fulfilling futures.
A HUGE thank you to our own wonderful acet UK pledger and the Big Give Champion, The Together Fund, who provided £11,000 of matched funding so that £11,000 of online donations could be DOUBLED!
SOUTH AFRICA: Jabulani is living with HIV, in poverty, and lost her home and all her belongings to the floods of April 2022. Now she, and 20 other women in the same situation, are being helped to build new houses and start a community-led business making blocks for home-building.
ZIMBABWE: 16-year-old Corsi turned to the sex trade to provide for herself and her child. Now she is being helped to leave the sex trade with business and vocational skills training and an apprenticeship in hairdressing.
NIGERIA: 11-year-old Naomi was very sick when she was enrolled on the vulnerable children programme. Having been tested positive for HIV and supported with counselling and medication adherence, she is now healthy and is doing well at secondary school!
THE MONEY RAISED WILL:
CREATE PATHWAYS OUT OF SEX WORK for 75 girls and women in Zimbabwe, by providing vocational/business skills training or support to further their education
PROVIDE CAREER & PARENTING SUPPORT for 40 at-risk Zimbabwean teen mums, helping reduce school dropout rates and preventing them from selling their bodies to survive.
HELP 12 HIV+ WOMEN BUILD NEW HOMES to replace the houses they lost to floods and to create a sustainable income for the future.
PROTECT 5000 GIRLS & WOMEN FROM HIV through HIV education, testing, counselling, and medication adherence support in Nigeria.
PROTECT UNBORN BABIES FROM HIV through prevention of mother-to-child transmission outreach in Nigeria.
PROVIDE RELATIONSHIP & SEX EDUCATION for 15,20 girls across Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and South Africa, empowering them to build self-confidence, make wise and healthy choices about relationships and sex, and advance gender equality.
