How does your Christian faith influence your lesson delivery in schools?
Our faith foundation motives us to see the value in all young people. We don't promote any particular viewpoint. Our perspective is to come from a place of love and understanding, to treat everyone as a valued, unique and special individual, and to be non-judgemental. The Esteem programme is very much about providing young people with the facts and skills but also equipping them with the critical thinking ability to make their own decisions, and the confidence to have open discussions about these topics. You can read more about our ethos and values here.
How does your Christian faith influence your Esteem courses?
The content of the Esteem RSE courses is applicable to the English statutory guidance for RSE i.e. what the government has set out should be taught in schools, so you may not realise from the training that we are a Christian organisation unless you saw this on our website. The course does not include a focus on teaching a faith perspective on RSE. We have a diverse range of people attending our courses, some from faith backgrounds and some with no religious faith. There are, of course, some hot topics within the RSE field, so you may have some interesting conversations on the course and you will hear a wide range of views. We do not require everyone to agree with us and each other by the end of the course. We facilitate these discussions to ensure everyone is respectful of each other and also feels heard. You can read more about our ethos and values here.
I work with university-aged young adults, not teenagers - would your Esteem training still be relevant for me?
We specialise in RSE for school-aged students rather than for adults but the training could still be very helpful as it will give you a broad grounding in RSE topics. It will also help you develop the skills needed to create high-quality RSE sessions adapted for the needs of the young adults you are working with, especially if they missed out on the RSE they should have received at secondary school. A summary of the course content can be found here.
I work with young people with special needs, is the Esteem training applicable to my work?
The current Esteem programme is not designed specifically for young people with special educational, learning or other needs. However, many past participants have come to the training from this background and have found the core training extremely applicable to their work. Esteem training does not assume anyone will use our resources exactly as we suggest, and we encourage Esteem members to adapt and develop the resources to work in their context.
I don’t live and work in the UK - can I still access your Esteem accredited courses?
When our accredited course is delivered online, it is accessible to anyone wherever they live, as long as they are fluent in spoken and written English. Around 15% of our current Esteem network members are based outside of the UK - and they have found the training very useful for educating young people in their own contexts. We do, however, need to point out that the course will include some teaching around the law regarding relationships and sex and this will be taught from the perspective of England. Of course, laws will vary from country to country, so you would need to look into how this differs in your country.
The course registration page is asking me to pay now, but I’d like to get my employer to pay later by invoice - is that possible?
Yes, we can arrange this for you - please contact us at info@acet-uk.com and we will ask you for some details to allow us to set this up for you.
Can I pay for a course in installments?
This is something we may be able to arrange - please contact us at info@acet-uk.com to discuss the details.
Do you offer any discounts on your training fees?
Unfortunately not. The prices of our courses are already subsidised by charitable funding we have applied for to keep the training fees as low as we can. Previously we have found some participants have gained sponsorship from local small grant funds and charities to help fund their place on the course.
Can I do the standard course now, and the accreditation later on?
Our examining body requires that trainees complete the accreditation straight after the course. Theoretically, you could delay the accreditation, but you would be required to repeat half of the course and do extra paperwork to achieve this.
Do I need to have previous experience or qualifications to attend your Esteem courses?
The 1-day teacher training course in RSE is for school teaching staff but the more comprehensive, accredited course is open to all. The training is suitable for anyone with an interest in RSE, with people coming on to the course from a number of different backgrounds – you don’t need any prior experience or qualifications. We do have school teachers choosing this course as they want to access the accreditation, but we also train youth workers, sexual health staff, therapists, independent schools workers, sex education vloggers - and many others who are just passionate about RSE!
What happens if I fail my accreditation?
If you are told that you have failed your assignment, we will offer you a chance to resubmit in order to gain your accreditation. We will ask you to pay a £25 resubmission fee and suggest that you arrange a call with your trainer for personalised guidance on what you need to do in order to pass with the resubmission. We will then agree on a resubmission date with you and your resubmitted assignments will go through our marking process.
Do you have a safeguarding policy?
