Ethos and Values

Who we are

acet UK is a Christian charity that equips and inspires individuals, schools, churches and organisations in the UK and internationally to transform culture by promoting healthy self-esteem, positive relationships and good sexual health.

Our ethos

As an organisation that began as a Christian response to HIV and AIDS, we remain committed to following Jesus’ example of unconditional love for all.

We believe that each person is unique and precious in God’s sight and strive to help people recognize and reach their potential and establish confidence in who they are.

By God’s very nature, we believe that God values relationships and we support others to build, enjoy and maintain safe and fulfilling relationships.

We believe that God created sex as a significant and special act and we characterize sex as something to be highly valued.

We take a holistic approach, communicating that positive choices about relationships and sex are key to our physical, emotional, spiritual, and social wellbeing.

Our educational approach is to encourage critical reasoning to help others make informed decisions that are shaped on their personal values and belief systems. Our role as educators is to guide people towards independent decision making rather than imposing our beliefs and values on them. In this way, we are committed to supporting people to make wise and healthy choices about their relationships and sexual health.

Our values

Significance of the individual

God’s love is for all and so we are committed to loving and serving each individual regardless of their faith, race, age, gender, sexual orientation, class, nationality, or disability. We listen to and take direction from our beneficiaries because we respect their insight about how we can best meet their needs.

Professional excellence

We strive to be a centre of excellence in the field of relationships and sex education and training. Our projects are in keeping with government guidelines and best practice, and developed through research, focus groups, and our experience as champions of positive relationships and sexual health. As an organisation working with international partners, we promote culturally relevant education and training that is developed by local leaders with the knowledge and experience of their context.

Partnership

We collaborate with schools, community leaders, government departments and other organisations (of faith and of no faith) in order to strengthen our impact in the communities where we work. In particular, our model of working with churches and their networks to support them in being a vital agent of change continues to be effective due to the large congregations they attract, their strong societal influence and their desire to live out their faith.

Accountability

We recognize our responsibility to effectively steward the financial, physical, and human resources entrusted to us. We achieve this through strong governance, open and honest communication and careful monitoring and evaluation of our projects.
